TH 410 10 credits 42, 44.07, 51.1601

Bachelor’s Thesis – 10,000 word minimum

Upon completion of the required credit hours of course work, the student will submit a 10,000-word thesis, demonstrating his or her understanding of the field of their choice. Students will have to demonstrate their grasp of the basic concepts in their fields and are encouraged to do a comparative study of techniques or philosophies. Students will be able to apply some of their homework towards their thesis, if relevant to the proposal.

Master’s Thesis – 15,000 word minimum

Upon completion of the required credit hours of course work, the student will submit a 15,000-word thesis, demonstrating his or her understanding of the field of their choice. Students will have to demonstrate their grasp of the basic concepts in their fields and are encouraged to do a comparative study of techniques or philosophies. Students will be able to apply towards the thesis some of their homework, if relevant to the proposal.

Ph.D. Dissertation – 25,000 word minimum

Upon completion of the required credits of core curriculum courses at the 600 level, the student will prepare a 25,000 word dissertation in a publishable format following Westbrook University’s published guidelines. The dissertation will reflect the student’s theoretical and practical understanding necessary for their field of concentration. The dissertation will reflect the student’s newly acquired direction in his / her techniques and a presentation of a preferred approach in the field. Findings will be based upon the core curriculum of the course, however, the student will have ample latitude in using other sources as well. The goal of the dissertation will be for the student to bring in his contributions to the field of their concentration. The required research project will be an addendum to the dissertation.

Survey of Transpersonal Psychology

This course will explore contemporary literature in the field with an emphasis on an integrative vision of psychology that includes intuitive, imaginative, and spiritual states of consciousness.

Transpersonal Psychology: Issues in Psychology

Using the psychological and spiritual issues chosen by Jack Kornfield in his book, A Path with a Heart, the student creates personal approaches to the core challenges of life including dreams, depression, and relationships.

Transpersonal Psychology Techniques

This course provides grounding in the facilitation of meditational and contemplational healing techniques. Students examine a basic form of mindfulness meditation, and approach to Transpersonal Psychotherapy based on Eastern spirituality and transpersonal body-mind-spirit healing theories.

Transpersonal Practicum

This course provides grounding in the facilitation of meditational and contemplational healing techniques. It includes Eastern spirituality and transpersonal body-mind-spirit healing theories.

Transpersonal Psychology: A Survey of History and Contemporary Practices

This course will examine the creators and founders of Transpersonal Psychology and review contemporary contributions to the discipline.

Transpersonal Philosophy

Students will study the works of Ken Wilber, the seminal philosopher of the Transpersonal movement.

Transpersonal Psychology

Human development and ego transcendence as presented in Eastern and Western approaches are integrated into a comprehensive psychotherapeutic approach in this course which draws on the brilliant scholarly work of Michael Washburn.
